Science Experiments

Over this term we have also been Scientists.  The children have participated in a variety of experiments.  Here is our Static Electricity experiment.  It was hair raising.

Uriah enjoyed having his hair spiked up by Olivia.

Watch out Kaedyn, Ryan has a plan for your hair.

                                                                    Cool hair Kordell!

Then we did the Volcano Experiment.  All eyes are on you Carlos.

Making Advertisements

During Term 3 the children had to create their own advertisements.  They could sell any product they wanted to.  They needed to use a clear voice and be convincing to the rest of the class.  We made a cardboard TV so the children got the idea that they would be behind a screen.  I video the children as well so they could hear themselves.

Here is Lily with her "Change your Hairstyle" advertisement.  Very convincing Lily!

Kaedyn had invented a Child Robot.  I think every parent needs one of these Kaeydn!  You made a great model too Carlos.

What's been happening lately?

Hello everyone.  I have been having alot of difficulty getting onto my page but hopefully I have sorted out the problem.  We have had loads of things going on in our classroom.  Firstly we are all set up in Room 9 as we wait for Room 8 to get earthquake safe.  It is really cosy and the children have been fantastic.  We were also given a Turtle at .the end of Term One and the children named him Rocky.  He is currently staying at my house and the children really miss him.

This is Rocky.  He is a 4 year old Red Eared Slider.  He is very cute but can bite really hard.  A huge thank you must go out to Horiana who gave him to us.

As the children were busy researching about turtles Whaea Louise brought in a huge
Turtle shell that has been passed down through her family.  It originally comes from one of the Pacific Islands and is meant to bring good luck to a family.  Olivia is showing a view from the outside of the shell.

This is Cerys with a view from the inside.  The children were really interested to see how the spine of the turtle is attached to the shell.

String Easter Eggs

In Room 8 we decided to make some String Easter Eggs.

First the children had to put small chocolate eggs into a small balloon and blow it up to make the shape of an  egg.

Next the children soaked string in PVA glue and wrapped the string around the balloon.  This created lots of mess and sticky hands.  However there was fun all around the table.

We then hung the eggs in a warm spot to dry.  We moved them a couple of times just in case the chocolate eggs got too hot and melted.  It took 24 hours for the string to dry.

When the string had dried it was time to remove the balloon.

This took lots of patience and help from others.

The end result was a string egg with chocolate eggs inside.

So it was smiles and success all round.

Hey everyone welcome to the Room 8 blog.  Each week I will be keeping you updated on what we have been doing and posting some pictures too.  This term our focus is on "It's all about me".  The children have been learning about themselves through identifying their interests and what they have in common with others. This week will be be looking at giving and following instructions.  The children will also be creating some Easter gifts including a weaved string Easter egg with small Easter eggs inside.  I will hopefully be able to post some pictures of these by the end of the week.  Hope you all enjoy our blog and have a happy week.
